To raise awareness of this immediate crisis\, The Watering Hole Foundation\, Ana for Elephants\, and lead artists Alex Beard and Jacques D uffourc\, began building a life-size paper mache African Elephant on Espla nade Avenue\, right in the heart of Jazz Fest. Festival goers were invited to participate in the art installation by applying strips of paper in a s ymbolic gesture of support of the 35\,000 elephants illegally killed each year.

Funds raised by the project will support two efforts in the Ngare Ndare Forest\, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Kenya and on e of the few remaining regional habitats of the African Elephant: 1) the a cquisition of a Land Cruiser to be used by local anti-poaching game warden s and 2) a tree planting effort throughout the forest\, which will preserv e the habitat while supporting community farms and farmers.

The theme set for PechaKucha NOLA Vol. 20 is “Come As You Are” The lineup of PechaKucha speakers will present you with a night of great conversation on their take of come as you are.
